Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence

Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence is an autonomous and self-sustaining research centre established through the 'EXCELSIOR' H2020 Widespread Teaming Phase 2 project. The centre evolved from the Remote Sensing and Geo-Environment Lab, which operated within the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics at Cyprus University of Technology since 2007. The centre aims to function as a world-class Digital Innovation Hub focused on Earth Observation, space technology, and Geospatial Information, serving as a reference institution for the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East, and North Africa regions.

The Digital Innovation Hub operates around two key infrastructures: a Satellite Ground Receiving Station and a Ground-based atmospheric remote sensing station. These facilities support an integrated ecosystem combining remote sensing and data processing technologies, research activities, educational programs, and entrepreneurship support. The centre contributes to Cyprus's engagement in the space sector.

Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence is affiliated with Cyprus University of Technology, a public institution founded in Limassol in 2003 with six faculties. The university enrolled its first students in 2007 and focuses on applied research to address challenges across scientific and technological domains. The institution maintains modern research facilities and specialized units staffed by experienced professionals, positioning it as a leading research entity on the island.
