KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence

KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence operates as a research facility within the University of Cyprus, having been established in 2008. In 2017, the European Union designated it as a Research and Innovation Center of Excellence. Between 2017 and 2022, the center secured more than 40 million euros in funding through collaboration with Imperial College London under the EU's Horizon 2020 program, specifically under the "Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation -- Teaming" initiative. This represents the largest and most competitive research and innovation funding available in Cyprus.

The center functions as Cyprus's largest ICT research and innovation facility, concentrating its work on the monitoring, control, management, and security of critical infrastructure systems, including electric power networks, water distribution systems, telecommunication networks, and transportation systems. The organization engages with a broad array of national and international partners from academic, industrial, and governmental sectors to enhance the practical application and reach of its research efforts.

KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence has received an ERC Advanced Grant focused on fault-adaptive monitoring and control of complex distributed dynamical systems. The center has coordinated the COST Action IntelliCIS and has been involved in coordinating or participating in more than 60 national and international research projects, with over 70% of funding sourced from the European Union and industry partners.
