ORPHANIDES AND MURAT LTD was founded in 1934 by Michael Orphanides and Fred Murat in Famagusta as a shipping and customs clearing agency. The company initially gained recognition across Cyprus as the representative for Khedivial Mail Line, which operated passenger and cargo services to and from the island. This role led to the company's entry into the travel business. In 1946, ORPHANIDES AND MURAT LTD was appointed as Lloyd's Agents for Cyprus, marking its expansion into insurance services. Additional agency appointments and representation agreements followed. During the 1950s, the founders' nephews—Stavros Pissarides, Andreas Toufexis, and James Murat—joined the business, and the company grew to become one of Cyprus's major agencies.
Following the 1974 Turkish invasion and occupation of Famagusta, ORPHANIDES AND MURAT LTD relocated its headquarters to Limassol, establishing branch offices in Nicosia and Larnaka. In the late 1980s, the third generation of the family, represented by Michael S Pissarides and Hector Toufexis, joined the company. The business transitioned to a limited company structure in 2000 while remaining under the same ownership. ORPHANIDES AND MURAT LTD continues to serve both local and international clients through its network of offices, drawing on nearly eight decades of operational experience in the region.
