Research Centre on Interactive Media, Smart Systems, and Emerging Technologies (RISE) operates as a research facility that advances the exchange of knowledge and technological development across its region. The organization is backed by funding from the European Commission and the Republic of Cyprus, with institutional support from founding partners including the Municipality of Nicosia, Max Planck, University College London, the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology, and the Open University of Cyprus. Operating under the framework "Inspired by Humans Designed for Humans," the centre conducts scientifically rigorous research on an international scale in several domains: visual sciences, human factors and design, communication, and artificial intelligence. Its stated aim is to generate research outcomes that contribute to innovation with measurable social and economic impact. Funding support includes grants from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and resources allocated by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus through the Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development.
