YEU Cyprus, an abbreviation for Youth for Exchange and Understanding Cyprus, is a non-political, non-governmental organization established in 1995 and based in Cyprus. The organization was founded to promote mutual understanding and cooperation among young people worldwide through the sharing of knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. With a membership exceeding 1,000 individuals, YEU Cyprus operates as one of the largest youth organizations in Cyprus and is recognized as one of the most active on the island.
The organization holds full membership status within the Cyprus Youth Council and serves on the Advisory Body of the Cyprus Youth Board, the government-affiliated entity overseeing youth matters in Cyprus. YEU Cyprus is also part of the YEU International network, which operates under the European Youth Forum framework. The organization advocates for youth rights and participation in Cypriot and international society, addressing topics including human rights, minority protections, racism, xenophobia, and extremism. A key focus involves amplifying youth voices through Structured Dialogue processes that contribute to policy development via initiatives such as Erasmus+ and similar programmes.
Activities are delivered using non-formal education and experiential learning methodologies. Internationally, YEU Cyprus organizes and facilitates training courses, youth exchanges, and European Solidarity Corps projects focused on youth development, awareness building, and skill enhancement. Members have access to participation in international activities including partner training programs, youth exchanges, European Solidarity Corps initiatives, seminars, and the YEU International Youth Convention. Locally, the organization hosts diverse events and activities such as Theater of the Oppressed, Human Libraries, workshops, street festivals, geocaching activities, and field trips designed to engage young people and address various social topics.
